INYIM Media Comic Corner: The Country Goose Cookie Jar!
"A couple of years ago, I gave the HSOTD tribute treatment to the iconic country geese drinking glasses from Libbey that seemed to be an important part of kitchens everywhere in the 80s and 90s.A new reader named Leena recently found that post while doing a Google search for Libbey country geese drinking glasses (because everybody should be searching for those priceless country jewels) and e-mailed me to ask if I remember the country goose cookie jar.I can barely remember what I ate for breakfast yesterday (but my bowels won’t forget since I had Dunkin’), but I definitely remember the country goose cookie jar. Because in many country goose-decorated kitchens of the 80s and 90s, the majestic country goose cookie jar was the Mona Lisa of the place. The country goose cookie jar that I remember looked exactly like the one above. It proudly worked a beautiful country blue neck ribbon while welcoming everyone to grab some of its cookies. There were different versions of the country goose cookie jar. Some were done up in Mother Goose drag or had a different kind of neck ribbon. And the country goose cookie jars also had some country goose goslings in the form of salt and pepper shakers:During my extensive research into the history of the country goose cookie jar (read: a 3-second internet search), I learned that several companies made the country goose cookie jar in the 80s and 90s. And they’re all over eBay. That’s surprising to me because who would part with such a whimsically elegant artifact that does double duty by holding onto your cookies AND serving country time beauty? Not to mention, doesn’t their country goose-themed kitchen look incomplete without it? And yes, I’m guessing that everyone who gave their kitchen a country goose-themed makeover in the 80s or 90s never ever changed it, because that look is forever timeless.
