2022 GLAAD Media Awards Nominations Lis: Elton John, ‘Hacks,’ ‘Sex Education’ and ‘9-1-1’ Among Nominees Honoring Art From 2021!

"The competition is set for the 33rd annual GLAAD Media Awards. The full roster of nominees — 246 across 30 categories (26 English and four Spanish-language) — were revealed today on TikTok by RuPaul’s Drag Race finalist Gottmik.

The awards, created to “honor media for fair, accurate, and inclusive representations of LGBTQ people and issues,” will be doled out during a pair of ceremonies, first in Los Angeles at the Beverly Hilton on April 2, and later in New York at the Hilton Midtown on May 6. The awards are presented by Gilead Sciences and Ketel One Family Made Vodka.

The list includes two new categories: outstanding new TV series and outstanding graphic novel/anthology. Also revealed today: GLAAD’s Barbara Gittings Award for Excellence in LGBTQ Media will go to Franco Stevens, a pioneering lesbian journalist and founding publisher of Curve Magazine. Stevens was recently featured in the Starz documentary Ahead of the Curve.

“Media can create positive change and this year’s nominees represent powerful projects, stories and creators that positively shifted culture and enlightened audiences with new and impactful LGBTQ stories,” said GLAAD president and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis. “There are more nominees this year than ever before, highlighting a growing landscape of LGBTQ visibility, and serving as a reminder of the critical role that film, television, music, journalism, and other forms of media can play in growing LGBTQ acceptance in the face of ongoing attacks against our community.”
