Missy Elliott Reacts to Her Songwriters Hall of Fame Induction: 'I Am So Humbly Grateful'

It's Misdeamnor in the house! Or shall we now officially and gleefully say Misdeamnor in the Songwriters Hall of Fame house! Here's to another day and another glass ceiling being shattered by the one and only Hip-Hop legend Missy Elliot...

"Missy Elliott, John Prine and Cat Stevens are among the Songwriters Hall of Fame's talented class of 2019 inductees, and the "Supa Dupa Fly" rapper is thrilled to be recognized for her lyrical prowess.

Both she and Prine took to social media to express their gratitude for their inductions, which were announced Saturday (Jan. 12) on CBS This Morning and then discussed by the hall's chairman, Nile Rodgers.

As the segment points out, Elliott is not only the sole female artist to be inducted in 2019, but the first female hip-hop artist to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame (and the third rapper altogether) since its inception in 1969.

Elliott's excitement was palpable on Twitter, where she shared her heartfelt thanks with a brief, emoji-dotted message: "I want to CONGRATULATE all the AMAZING songwriters who have been inducted into the 2019 Song Writers Hall of Fame... also those who were nominated because their body of work is AMAZING."

"To me, it's important to have equality," Rodgers told CBS This Morning's Anthony Mason in regards to Elliott's nomination. "I've written with a lot of women songwriters, but not nearly enough, and that's sort of like my secret goal. That's why when you told me Missy Elliott, I'm like, blown away -- she's one of my favorite writers of all time."

Country scribe Tom T. Hall, Eagles collaborator Jack Tempchin and pop and R&B producer and writer Dallas Austin round out the group of honorees, which will be formally inducted at New York's Marriott Marquis Hotel on June 13." - Billboard.com
