Yes, that's right, our beloved Saved By The Bell 90's pop idol, Kelly Kapowski, "may have just seemed like the most popular girl in school, but decades later, the actress who played her, Tiffani Thiessen, said Bayside’s head cheerleader may have had some feminist qualities as well.
“I think she may have been [a feminist] without knowing it,” the actress, 44, said during a panel at Blogher’s Creator Summit on Wednesday. “I think truly out of all the characters the feminist role was Elizabeth Berkley [who played Jessie, but] I think in [Kelly’s] mind it was different.”
“She came from having a lot of brothers and sisters, which was all about sharing and having to be all about family, [and] didn’t have a lot of money, so she made her mark by the little that she had, and there’s something to be said for that,” Thiessen told the crowd at Manhattan’s Pier 17.
Years later, Kapowski’s trademark positivity is something that the mother of two has carried with her from her stint on “Beverly Hills 90210” to the age of social media.
“I remember that some of my [‘Beverly Hills 90210’] castmates were really adamant about reading what people were saying and it was really hard for them to move past it, and I remember saying, ‘Why would you do that? What’s the point?’ And that’s something I’m looking to teach my daughter too,” she said.
When it comes to posting about her life, Thiessen knows its important share what she’s up to professionally, but is pickier about letting fans in on what’s going on at home.
“I really just kind of listen to myself,” she said, recalling her husband Brady Smith wanting to post their 8-year-old daughter’s school picture. “I was like, ‘Nope, that’s ours.’” - Pagesix.com
