The CFDA has announced that it is launching its own menswear-dedicated fashion week, underlining menswear's growing importance in the American fashion industry.
Dubbed New York Fashion Week: Men’s, the CFDA initiative will kick off with the spring 2016 shows, running from July 13-16 at Skylight Clarkson Square in Manhattan. It answers a long-requested call for a men's dedicated fashion week here in New York, where menswear designers are often forced to either show on the women's calendar or take their collections to London or Pitti Uomo.
"[New York Fashion Week: Men's] gives the designers a business platform to show during their market dates and is an opportunity to demonstrate the collective talent of an important segment of our industry," CFDA CEO Steven Kolb said in a statement.
Amazon's portfolio of fashion sites, which include Amazon Fashion, East Dane and MyHabit, will serve as primary sponsors, with additional support from Detroit-based leather goods company Shinola. Confirmed designers so far include Tommy Hilfiger, Public School and Todd Snyder, with more to come.
