You can be a charming Jay Gatsby this summer by visiting your local Brooks Brothers store.
Let the Gatsby-themed product launches begin.
Fortunately, this is one that makes a lot of sense. Brooks Brothers, which partnered with Great Gatsby costumer Catherine Martin on men’s clothes for the actual film, has today released a limited-edition menswear collection inspired by those costumes.
According to a release, the collection “channels the dreamlike world of pristine green lawns and lavish parties depicted in the original 1925 novel” (which actually mentions Brooks Brothers by name), and also takes inspiration from the film’s costumes, which were based on archival Brooks Brothers. So basically, they’re more or less re-issuing archival pieces and it’s timed to the release of The Great Gatsby.
“Brooks Brothers is mentioned numerous times in Fitzgerald’s writings as a representation of the ultimate gentleman’s purveyor of fine clothing to the American man of distinction,” Catherine Martin said in a release. “It is this most basic and fundamental connection that has made our collaboration so authentic.”
Specifically, dudes looking to channel the story’s dapper, collegiate leading men will find Jay Gatsby’s pink suit, Nick Carraway’s shawl cardigan, and a range of waistcoat and bowtie offerings. There’s even a beech wood walking stick based on the one Gatsby carries in the film, which we’re sure is already on Scott Disick’s shopping list.
The film’s Art Deco-inspired “The Great Gatsby” logo is sewn into each tag, along with a ’20s-era Brooks Brothers logo from the company’s archives.
All in all, it’s one of the most detailed and authentic collaborations we’ve ever heard of and we think most men could benefit from a little more Gatsby prep in their wardrobes. You can shop the collection as of today here, or in stores, some of which–including the NYC Madison Avenue flagship–will exhibit some of the film’s actual costumes. Pretty cool.
