Fashionista.com takes a updated look at new Dior creative designer Raf Simons in his latest front cover interview for i-D magazine.
i-D‘s Lights, Camera, Action issue is hitting newsstands May 10, and who better to grace one of its eight covers than fashion’s man of the moment, Raf Simons?
The designer has certainly had his share of ups and downs as of late. After allegedly being “unceremoniously dumped” from Jil Sander to make way for the return of its founder, Simons bid a tearful farewell at his final runway show for the label in Milan. Weeks later, Simons was named creative director at Dior, ending a year of speculation over who would finally succeed John Galliano.
Now, he’s peeking from behind a patch of grayed out blooms on the cover of i-D, with the fitting caption “It’s Show Time.” Indeed. He’s also speaking up about his final (gorgeous) collection for Jil Sander. He describes it as “…very wholesome, very romantic. Kind of like when you’re outside, walking in nature. Beauty isn’t always obvious; you have to search for it. That’s what I find most romantic.”
Romantic, huh? How very Dior. Simons also discusses his personal perspective on fashion and why he chose to throw himself into the industry. “Fashion is not there to educate you, but to challenge you. Sometimes I speak with young kids and I have the feeling… not that they have no interest, but that they look at it in a different way. This is the reason I chose to do fashion, to create a dialogue and bring people together.”
Sounds like a good read! If you can’t wait until May 10 to get your hands on a copy, you can order the issue online starting May 7 at i-Donline.com.
