Favorite fashion editor of ours, Leah Chernikoff shares that...
"If you loved Andre Leon Talley as a judge on America’s Next Top Model but always secretly thought (like we did) that he should have how own show to better show off his shimmering capes and bon mots, you’re in luck: ALT is getting his own show on Bravo.
According to a release, the show will “follow four up-and-coming fashion design teams as they produce the defining collection of their careers, all under the watchful eye of fashion icon Andre Leon Talley. The mission to ‘create, show and sell’ is clear for emerging designers striving to build a business in New York City, which remains the heart of the fashion industry.”
The show only has a working title right now, Fashion Stories of NYC. We’d like to suggest, Of Capes and Couture, or maybe All About Andre a show in which ALT would also host political debates in his “salon” with assorted fashion and art world people (seriously, how good would that be?).
In all seriousness, with the glut of fashion reality shows now clogging the airways, most of them as far from reality as you can get (ahem, Fashion Star), this one sounds promising. In the same vein as All On the Line (one of the realest of the fashion reality shows out there), Fashion Stories NYC sounds like it could actually portray the fashion industry in a realistic light: struggling design teams (presumably they’re already established) and a mentor who really knows his shit." - Fashionista.com
"Spend time with André Leon Talley in this deleted scene from The September Issue, as he visits Paris, shopping and having a "summer shirt " custom made - an absolute necessity for lunching on Karl Lagerfeld's terrace in St. Tropez."
Christy Turlington looks better than ever!
"Yesterday Claudia Schiffer’s new Guess ad made headlines–at 41 the supermodel looks almost exactly the same as she did when she first modeled for the label 23 years ago. Today, another example of the ageless-ness of ’90s supes. Christy Turlington, looking the same if not better than she did during the ’90s, and somehow managing to still look gorgeous with a little pencil mustache drawn on for the cover of Tatler’s May issue. The cover headline seems to suggest Turlington is doing some more directing, but IMDB, our ultimate authority on all things movies, doesn’t have any upcoming projects listed yet. We’re still digging and will keep you posted…"
London-based designer Markus Lupfer creates an all-girl Japanese musical affair for his Fall 2012 collection in a kooky videography form!
"Each season, London-based designer Markus Lupfer creates a video to accompany his collections. We heart them because, like his clothes, the videos are always witty, original and reference some aspect of pop culture. For resort, it was ’60s mockumentaries. For fall 2012, it’s Japanese pop videos. It’s hilariously bizarre in the way that so many aspects of Japanese pop culture are to us simple-minded Americans. The stars of this video, titled “Huge Tiny Zoo,” happen to be an East London girl group outfitted in Lupfer’s very cute fall collection. Click through for the amazing video (seriously, we’re obsessed) and a Q + A with Mr. Lupfer about its unique inspiration."
"What was the inspiration for your fall collection?
It began with a dark fairytale forest feel, we made it sleek and sporty but kept the wit throughout the knitwear
What inspired you to do a Japanese pop video theme?
Its just a really cool looking genre that’s easy and that I love. Its homage to the 90s indie pop girls who cast themselves in the image of their 60s heroes. I’ve always been very fond of the Japanese culture, Tabitha Denholm (the Director) and I have a very similar vision and it felt perfectly right this season.
What does Huge Tiny Zoo mean?
Its a reference to the computer game that was being played on set.
How did you find the girls in the video? Who are they?
The girls are Haruna, Sachi and kyoko. They make up the East London based band “No Cars.” They captured the look and mood perfectly
You always do such great videos to go along with your collections. Any particular reason? What do you like about videos?
Thanks!! We love doing the videos, its a really great way of conveying the humour of the brand, I want the videos to be fun, lighthearted, unpretentious, something a bit quirky that puts a smile everyone’s face.
Any ideas for next season’s video?
Its still a bit early in the season for that, at the moment were concentrating on the mood and direction of the collection and then everything else falls into place from there. Besides if we told you we would have to hunt you down!"
