Anna Wintour is nothing if not passionate about the things she believes in, and now she’s being honored for it. Hot on the heels of the news that she’s stumping hard for the Obama 2012 re-election campaign by enlisting designers to partake in Runway to Win, comes word that she’s getting an award for her work for marriage equality.
The Human Rights Campaign (HRC), which supports lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transgender (LGBT) rights, is honoring the editrix-cum-crusader with its Ally for Equality reward for her “outspoken” support of their causes. The Ally award is given to those outside the LGBT community who support its members in outstanding ways. She spoke out for gay marriage back in May, and the HRC acknowledged her other contributions in a press release:
“We recognize Anna Wintour for her grace, dignity, style, philanthropy, and generosity,” said HRC President Joe Solmonese. “We are proud to honor her with the Ally for Equality Award for her commitment to the LGBT community through her work with marriage equality, HIV/AIDS activism, and the It Gets Better Campaign.”
The award will be presented by Glee creator Ryan Murphy, at a gala dinner on February 4. Many kudos to Anna for using her far-reaching voice and considerable resources on such important issues. - fashionista.com
