Daphne Guinness Unleashes Her M.A.C Collection Collaboration!

Fashion writer Hayley Phelan lets us know when...
"It was announced that Daphne Guinness would be teaming up with M.A.C to bring us a 24-piece cosmetics line we were expecting an over-the-top collection from the skunk-haired, crazy-platform-wearing style icon. I mean, come on, this is Daphne Guinness after all!
But much to our surprise and delight the collection looks extremely wearable. Flattering, even. There are pretty pink blushes, brown eyeliners, deep red and mauve lipsticks and shimmery-looking brown, beige and purple powders–”colors [that are] as sophisticated, authentic and refined as Daphne herself,” the press release reads.

This mix of wearable colors is especially surprising, given where the collection began–with Guinness’ spit. “When we first started working on colors, [Guinness] pulled a tiny watercolor case out of her handbag and, using her own saliva, began mixing colors immediately!” M.A.C’s Senior Vice President and Creative Director James Gager said in a press release. However strange, it is certainly refreshing and admirable how hands-on Guinness’ approach was to the collaboration–she was, according to the release, involved in each step of producing the collection, personally mixing colors and even naming some of the shades.

Along with an interview with Gager (who says of Guinness, “When she walked into the office…You instantly understand how seductive she is as a person. Suddenly, you’re in love with her”) the press release also has a charming Q&A with the batty Guinness.

She talks about her first experience with cosmetics: “I tried to make myself look Japanese [as a child]…But instead of makeup I would use watercolors or acrylics or anything I could get my hands on. Sometimes I would paint pictures on my face, on my eyelids or whatnot.”

Her feelings towards light: “I’m very sensitive to light change–-I’ll start jumping up and down when the sun begins to set.”

And of course, our reason for being: “It seems to me that the only point of being a human being is being able to transform the way you look!”

Don’t even get her started on what she was inspired by for the collection. According to the press release it ranges from “the whispered luxury of an antique Chinese porcelain vase” to “pigeon’s blood” and “how the intricate wings of a butterfly resemble the images of deepest space.” Right…" - Fashionista.com
