Teen Icons by Lope Navo
Photographer Lope Navo draws inspiration from his favorite American teen icons and pop culture idols for the New Wave editorial ‘Teen Icons.’ With the styling touch of Alex van der Steen and the editing of Nicola Formichetti, Navo delivers a captivating story that reflects the power of pop culture.
Lope Navo explains, “I always have been playing around with the idea of an editorial about my favorite American Teen Icons growing up in the 90’s, and some teen inspirations and iconographies from different decades before me. Mickey Mouse, Elvis and James Dean are the most popular and expected of course, but I also added the unexpected ones I haven’t seen used a lot in fashion/ portrait stories, like Jason Priestley as Brandon Walsh in Beverly Hills 90210, music/teen legend Bob Dylan, Julie Newmar as the Catwoman, Mark Wahlberg as the high school dropout and male prostitute Eddie Adams (aka Dirk Diggler) in one of my favorite films ever Boogie Nights, Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean, Molly Ringwald in Sixteen Candles & The Breakfast Club, and, of course, what are teen fantasies without Peter Pan, Britney Spears, David Bowie and Brooke Shields?
With the support of Fusion models ‘very’ editorial board, and my creative team, all my teen fantasies came to life. I am also been inspired by world renowned stylist Nicola Formichetti’s work and career and I added my own artworks throughout the story, inspired by Nicola’s endearing creative genius. He also found time to help me edit my story through his busy schedule, on a plane from Tokyo to LA for the last MTV VMA’s and I feel so honored, I can’t ask for more.” - Courtesy of Homotography.blogspot.com
