Filed Under: Como?!? Face-Distorting Jewelry. A New Trend? Lets Hope Not.

Leah over at fashionista has some alarming trend-spotting news that left me aesthetically perplexed. As far as we can tell from interwebs digging (we went all the way into a random person’s flickr stream!), Turkish jewelry designer Burcu Büyükünal created this face jewelry as a grad student in the department of industrial design at Istanbul Technical University back in 2008. Büyükünal’s jewelry has thankfully evolved since then–now it’s all playfully colorful rings and bobbypins and not at all face-smushing.

CoDesign tipped us off to this totally bizarre accessory, noting that the face jewelry seems perfectly suited to Gaga. We have to agree. Only we hope she doesn’t notice this stuff so people don’t start copying her and freaking us out looking like real live walking Picassos.

Would you ever try something like this kiddas? Leah believes it’s slightly more adventurous than just wearing a head piece. But just because something is slightly more daring doesn't mean it automatically looks good. I think. This is where I insert a quote: "You can't sell crap by calling it ART. Crap is still crap, even in disguise' -Ian Cole Photographer
