Mary J. Blige to Play Nina Simone
Okay okay kiddas, I'm trying not to freak out about this BUT how can I not when Mary J. Blige will star in Cynthia Mort's "Nina," a movie about legendary singer Nina Simone. Now, Nina Simone has been a highly influential singer-songwriter since growing up as a young lad. I credit the likes of Nina Simone and John Lennon as the greatest songwriters that ever lived. But back to the film...
"Mort's script focuses on Simone's relationship with her assistant Clifton Henderson, who will be played by David Oyelowo, backers said. William Morris Endeavor's Global Finance & Distribution Group brought the film to U.K. production, finance and studio facility operator Ealing Studios."
Ealing is basically putting this entire biopic (estimated at $10 million)together. The film is scheduled to shoot in the fall this year. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Nina Simone, well besides being one the greatest soul-singers of all-time, she was a brilliant songwriter, pianist, arranger and civil rights activist.
I hope to be under some kind of spell when watching the film. Here is Nina's 'I Put A Spell On You' circa 1968.
And lets not forget about Mary, cause Mary has proven in the last 20 years that she's a true force in the musique industry with incomparable vocal abilities.
